From 2019 to 2021, under USAID Fintrac's Subaward FTFE VCA PF #21, HiTEC Trading contributed to strengthening and scaling up the input supply system's delivery of affordable, high-quality technologies and services. In our aim to expand the use of improved technologies and practices by male and female smallholders, including youth. HiTEC trained 1,310 extension workers and woreda experts, sold 250,000 low volume hermetic bags, reaching an estimated 125,000 beneficiaries. We conducted 800 market promotional events, reaching approximately 22,052 customers, and carried out 400 village demonstrations (200 bag tying and 200 bag opening), reaching over 5,000 farmers. Moreover, more than 20,000 farmers received market promotion text messages.
In May 2020, HiTEC conducted a joint demonstration with MoA, GIZ, CIMMYT, and EIAR in Addis Ababa at ILRI campus. The intervention entailed technology promotion and demand creation activities.
In March 2020, with the support of NGO partners GIZ and CIMMYT, HiTEC conducted technology promotion activities aimed at promoting conservation agriculture (CA) through small-scale mechanization. The activities took place in Machakal Woreda, East Gojjam Zone, Amhara region, involving training for selected Agri-DAs and lead farmers. The demonstrations showcased the successful application of small HP tractors and tractor attachments in realizing the small-scale mechanization process.
In January 2020, HiTEC, together with Oromia Agriculture Bureau and Ethiopian Institute for Agriculture Research (EIAR), carried out a successful demonstration in East Shoa Zone, Adaa woreda, Denkaka kebele. The demo took place on a local lead farmer's Avocado farm using small HP tractor and reversible Mouldboard.
In 2019, HiTEC, in collaboration with Melkassa & Kulumsa research centers, conducted field tests and practical demonstrations focusing on 26 Hp tractors and implements such as Mouldboard, cultivator, reaper, and thresher.
In 2016 and 2017, HiTEC conducted joint promotions and product demonstrations with Oromia Seed in West Arsi, West Wollega, and East Shoa.
In 2016 and 2017, HiTEC conducted a joint promotion with GIZ in Arsi Robe, Lode Hitosa, Degelu Tijo, Hitosa, and Iteya. The intervention involved providing training to selected DAs and model Farmers, as well as product demonstrations in rural Kebeles.
In 2015 and 2016, HiTEC promoted Low-Volume hermetic bags in Libo Kemekem and Fogera Woredas in close collaboration with an INGO called MEDA. The intervention involved training for model Farmers, Demonstration of Product efficacy, and community-based social Marketing, specifically targeting rice-producing farmers.
